Bamboo Muhly ( Muhlenbergia dumosa) is a perennial clumping grass native to North America, specifically Arizona, and is very well adapted in Texas. Bamboo Muhly is drought tolerant and cold hardy to zone 7. In some warmer climates it can stay green all year but typically will go through dormancy in the freezing months. This grass makes a great privacy screen, growing up to 5 or 6 feet tall with dense, feathery foliage. Bamboo Muhly makes a perfect resting place for birds and other wildlife looking for some shade or protection.Â
