The Story

Carex cherokeensis is a perennial, evergreen sedge known for its graceful, arching foliage and clumping growth habit. Commonly called Cherokee Sedge, it reaches up to 18 inches tall when flowering and about 1 foot tall when not in bloom. Thriving in moist, well-drained sandy loam, it is cold and heat tolerant and prefers part shade. This low-maintenance, deer-resistant sedge produces pendulous flower and seed stalks in late spring and serves as an excellent groundcover or naturalized filler in gardens. While somewhat drought-tolerant, it performs best with consistent moisture and is ideal for woodland landscapes, rain gardens, and shaded borders.
