The Story

Hibiscus laevis (Halberdleaf Rosemallow) is a tall, showy perennial native to Texas and much of the eastern U.S., known for its large pink or white blooms with deep maroon centers. Growing up to 6 feet tall, it features sharply lobed, halberd-shaped leaves and upright stems with flowers that open during the day and close at night. Ideal for wetland gardens, pond edges, or rain gardens, this mallow attracts butterflies and adds vibrant color from late spring through fall. It's also related to okra and shares the same sap that gave marshmallows their name!
