The Story

Calyptocarpus vialis, commonly known as horseherb, straggler daisy, or hierba del caballo, is a resilient perennial groundcover that serves as an excellent lawn alternative for shady areas. Native to southern coastal states of the U.S., it thrives in both sun and full shade, with high drought and heat tolerance. Horseherb spreads easily to form a lush green carpet and can withstand moderate foot traffic. From March through November, it produces tiny, yellow daisy-like flowers that attract small butterflies, such as sulfurs and skippers, adding a subtle touch of color to shaded spaces. In frost-free regions, horseherb can bloom year-round, though it may go dormant during cold winters.
