The Story

Nassella tenuissima is a delicate, perennial grass that thrives in well-drained soils and adapts to dry or moist conditions. Preferring low water use, it flourishes in full sun to part shade. Commonly known as Mexican Feathergrass, it features fine, silvery-green, thread-like leaves that sway gracefully in the breeze. In summer and early fall, it produces soft, silvery-white flower plumes, adding a light, airy texture to landscapes. While highly ornamental, it can become invasive in certain regions if not properly managed. This grass is deer-resistant and an excellent choice for xeriscaping, rock gardens, and container planting.

Scientific Name: Nassella tenuissima
Origin: West Texas, southern New Mexico, central Mexico, Argentina, and Chile
Height: Up to 3 feet
Spread: Variable
Light: Sun, Part Shade
Water: Low
USDA Zones: 6-10
