Prunus mexicana
(Mexican Plum) is a deciduous tree that reaches up to 35 feet tall, often shorter. This non-suckering tree features fragrant, showy white flowers that bloom before the leaves emerge in early spring. As the season progresses, the tree's plums transition from yellow to mauve and finally to purple as they ripen between July and September. The tree’s mature trunks develop a satiny blue-gray bark with darker, horizontal striations, adding visual interest year-round. Mexican Plum thrives in both dry and moist, well-drained soils, making it a versatile choice for various landscapes.
