Wafer Ash

Ptelea trifoliata (Wafer Ash) is a versatile small tree or shrub that thrives in moist to dry, well-drained soils and adapts well to various soil types, including loam, clay, and limestone-based soils. It tolerates a range of light conditions from full sun to shade and has medium to high water use. Wafer Ash features trifoliate leaves that turn yellow in fall, and its fragrant greenish-white flowers appear from March to July. The wafer-like samara fruits provide a unique ornamental feature, and its nectar attracts butterflies, including the Eastern and Giant Swallowtail.
