Blanketflower

Gaillardia pulchella, commonly known as Firewheel or Blanketflower, is a vibrant annual wildflower that thrives in dry plains, open areas, and prairies. Adapted to well-drained sandy or calcareous soils, it tolerates heat and drought with ease. This showy plant features hairy, much-branched stems and striking flower heads with red centers and yellow-tipped rays, resembling a Fourth of July pinwheel. Blooming primarily from May to August, it may flower year-round in favorable conditions. Firewheel is a favorite among butterflies and native bees, making it an excellent choice for wildflower meadows and pollinator gardens.
