Maximilian Sunflower

Maximilian Sunflower (Helianthus maximiliani Schrad.), also known as Max Sunflower, is a tall, perennial wildflower native to North American prairies and grasslands. Thriving in dry to moist, well-drained soils, it is highly adaptable and drought-tolerant. This showy plant features unbranched, leafy stems reaching up to 10 feet tall, with long, narrow, coarse leaves and bright yellow flowers. Blooming from August to November, it produces numerous daisy-like flower heads with dark brown centers. Maximilian Sunflower is valuable for wildlife, providing nectar for bees and butterflies and seeds for birds. Its striking height and vibrant blooms make it an excellent choice for wildflower meadows, pollinator gardens, and prairie restorations.
